How we approach Physical Education in our school

SPIRALPE in our school

We chose SPIRALPE because it is an engaging, practical tool to help children develop a lifelong love of moving and being physically active.

The starting point for any curriculum is to capture the imagination of the pupils and to help build an interest in the subject area, so that they can develop the deep understanding and gain the practical skills they need to reach their potential.

From the first day of primary school to the last…

The SPIRALPE curriculum takes our children on a journey.

It gives them the opportunity to experience  a wide range of sports and activities at an age appropriate level and builds up the challenges as the pupils move up through school.

It supports our team with clear and progressive planning which meets every area of the national physical education curriculum and allows everyone  (staff and pupils) to enjoy PE lessons.

SPIRALPE follows a  lesson sequence which sees all the classes in the school working on the same sporting thread that week, but to their own year group specific skill challenges and Can I questions.

It considers the themes, the sporting or physical activity thread and the age appropriate language being applied. It also gives detailed teaching points and even suggests role models as conversation starters.

Based on 36 physical literacy skills, the lessons are quick paced with high levels of activity and feature  individualised challenges that build self confidence and enjoyment.

Enjoyment is key to building a love of this incredibly important subject.
